According to the preliminary data from Byulleten' Kinoprokatchika [Film Distributor’s Bulletin], the total box office sales of the Russian film distributions in February 2019 amounted to RUB 4,070 billion, which is 4.8% less than it was in February last year. If calculate in USD, the progress turned out to be similar: compared to February 2018, the box office has fallen by 17.8% making only USD 61.738 million. In the last month of the winter this year, Russian points have sold 15.932 million tickets, which is 5.2% less against February last year.
The dynamics turned out to be similar for the statistics including the CIS cinemas. The points of Russia and the CIS-countries (without Ukraine) jointly collected RUB 4.332 billion in February 2019 and covered 17.153 million viewers. This is respectively 6.2% and 7.5% less than February last year. This dynamics is also negative in terms of USD: 65.717 million (-19.0%).
The highest-grossing releases of this month were the fantastic action cyberpunk film “Alita: Battle Angel” (FOX) and the animated film “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” (UPI).
