108 Russian Film Market: thrillers and gangster movies in distributor packs
On April 15, 108 The Russian Film Market has started in Moscow, which for 30 years brings together leading film industry players. On the first day of the forum, the projects from Prestige Cinema, Ten Letters and Megogo Distribution were presented.
One of the headliners of the Prestige Cinema Company is the "Mousetrap" thriller from the Wild Stories Argentine hit producers. In the story, the thief steals during the 40-grade heat into the armored tinted-windows car and gets stuck there.
Another potential hit is the first adaptation of the novel "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" by American writer Shirley Jackson. The director of the film Stacie Passon is known for her work on the "American Gods", "House of Cards" and "Billions" projects. Once more famous novel "The Haunting of Hill House" by Jackson has been already filmed three times and all three films are cult-favorite.
One of the most potentially successful films of the company is the fantastic thriller “The Others”, which has triumphed over several festivals specializing in film fiction. The plot makes us recall such movies as X-men and Firestarter. American critics prognosticate the success of recent thrillers "Silent Place" and "Reincarnation".
The gangster Italian film "5 is a Lucky Number" is also included in the Cinema Prestige's pack. This is a screen adaptation of the famous comic book with the participation of the main modern Italian actor Tony Servillo, a favorite of Paolo Sorrentino. This is a film about an old gangster who avenges the death of his son and destroys everyone in his path.
In the near future, the company will also offer viewers several horror films. Among them are the Spanish film with the working title "30 Seconds in the Future", a mixture of "The Endless" and "Perfect Strangers", the Brazilian "Voices from the Next World"
and the American "Damned" and "Blood Fest".
In the summer Cinema Prestige's pack, there is the continuation of the famous almanacs franchise about the cities of the world – "Berlin, I love you." The previous films, "Paris, I love you" and "New York, I love you" have collected over a million dollars in Russia. The distributor hopes that this film will not go unnoticed by the audience.
After six months, Ten Letters have presented their first pack on the market. Among the distributor's plans for May, there are family comedy “Thank You, Grandfather, for the Victory”, which will be released on May 1, and children's musical animation “Farm Frenzy” (on May 23).
Ten Letters have announced another animated film "Latte", shot in co-production with Germany and France. The plot is focused on the forest adventures of a hedgehog, squirrel and bear, who are looking for a lost diamond. To be released from October 3.
The distributor pack features a thriller from the director of the cult film "American Psycho". New project "So said Charlie" by Mary Harron is about famous maniac Charles Manson, a founder of the "Family" sect. The film is based on real events. It got excellent critic reviews from around the world and was presented in the competitive program of the Venice Film Festival. Its release in Russia is scheduled for May 30.
From September 19, viewers will be able to see the Franco-German "Proxima" drama about space, the shooting of which was partially held in Zvyozdny gorodok near Moscow. The film stars Eva Green, who plays the astronaut who is preparing to fly to the ISS, and Matt Dillon ("The House That Jack Built"). The film will be accompanied by a large advertising campaign and support from commercial and governmental structures.
"Running with the devil" is a crime drama about drug trafficking from Colombia to the USA styled after the “Snatch”
and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” movies. The film stars Nicolas Cage and Lawrence Fishburne, playing the chef in the cafe and drug trafficker respectively. The picture will take the audience into the atmosphere of crime, but will do it with humor. The film will be released in October.
One more project in the Ten Letters pack is the drama "Work without authorship" by Florian Henkel von Donnersmark, which acquired two Oscar nominations this year. This is a story about a young artist who in his childhood saw the Nazis slaughter his mother. Years later, after the war, he fell in love with a girl. Arriving at her home, the hero recognized that her father was that very Nazi. The movie release is scheduled for October.
Megogo Distribution Company has presented their new pack, including the top projects for 2019 and 2020.
On May 2, children's hilarious animation "Bikes" by the screenwriter of the cult-favorite films "Darkwing Duck", "Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears" and "Scooby-Doo" will be released in Russia The movie events take place in a small town where bicycles of all kinds, ages and even different wheels are living.
The distributor announced two more projects for children and family audience. This is a funny animated film "Scary Show" about current problems for schoolchildren, and the film "The Secret Power of Thought", the events of which take place in the distant past. Its plot is focuses on amazing cute 'triphants' animals who rebel against life in slavery among people and go on an exciting journey in search of freedom.
The comedy "Think Like a Dog", starring Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel, is also intended for family viewing.
In the Megogo Distribution's pack, there is also a large selection of thrillers.
From May 23, viewers will see the intense detective action-thriller "Poisonous Rose", which can boast of not only a dynamic and intricate plot, but also a brilliant cast of characters: the film stars John Travolta, Famke Janssen, Brendan Fraser, Morgan Freeman. The film is based on the eponymous bestseller of Richard Salvatore.
On September 19, Sylvester Stallone will return to cinema screens with the latest film about Rambo - "Rambo 5: Last Blood". The plot of the last fifth part tells about Rambo who has already retired. But again he will have to take up arms and fight with one of the most brutal cartels of Mexico, who kidnapped the daughter of his friend.
A similar story has happened to the hero of Stallone in the action movie "Escape Plan 3: Devil's Station". And now again he has got involved in a narrow-escape adventure.
